In the recent years failure on these has really grown.
This fits Late 2004 and Up 48RE Dodge Cummins Diesel Automatic Transmissions.
This may have many names : Shift Controller , TTVA , Shift Actuator , Shift Motor , TV Motor
It mounts to the exterior of the transmission case on the drivers side held in place by 2 bolts.
Extreme abuse , towing , temperatures , and mileage can all lead to this unit failing.
These are designed with polymer gears inside , and the teeth are rounding off over time as well.
The good news this is a simple install and only takes about 10-15 minutes .
The computer (ecm) will auto zero this after the install , and correct the problems occuring.
The unit is sealed and none of the interior is serviced seperately.
If you truck has the check engine light on, the below are all common failure codes for this item.
Under the steering column in the plug to check for codes.
If you don't have a code reader most all auto parts stores will read the codes present for free for you.
